Creative nonfiction is the way of telling events, memories, truth, honesty, and those moments you want to cherish and sharing it with a broader audience. Of course it isn’t just in the way you write creative nonfiction but also by the way of how you tell it and adding your personalized style. The writer could structurally or just write it freely on whatever comes to mind. Even if it happened or a perhaps it could have happened, I think the story should still be believable. If someone writes something that it is not true, then making it a believable story is reasonable.
Fiction is facts and research whereas creative nonfiction goes beyond the typical norms that we may come to think of. Writing about the real world and what happened to me or someone personally matters. Perhaps writing creative nonfiction is a way to experiment with my writing and improving my skills. In the course, I’ve continue to find my strengths and weaknesses. The mistakes I make over and over as a writer is something I need to work on. Telling a story and my experiences in simple language and not making them complex matters to me. I want to write a story and get straight to the point. Description, or the lack of, is something that I really need to work on. Now that is where I kind of get lazy as a writer. I’ll go into details on a given subject, but it won’t be a colorful description. I’ll just end up touching the surface. I need to be stronger in this area and some of the activities have helped me think out of the box. I believe with creative nonfiction writing, emphasis on dialogue, settings, characters, plot, etc. isn’t too heavily looked for in the different stories. But there will be times when people will either like what is written or find it disapproving.
Like my professor has mentioned several times, most people are rationally thinkers and I’m one of them. One thing I believe that isn’t hard to write was the personal essay. Writing that essay was kind of enjoyable. Yes, it is called a personal essay, but I believe I have told and shared with the class what matters to me the most. It shows that we are similar to each other yet we are different in the experiences and memories that have been written. Not only I had to write about a memory or a segment of life, but it is the way that I told that makes it creative nonfiction; not just saying it, but telling it in a certain style. Sometimes I write from the guts and share things that are may be current societal issues and everyday life that matters to be but expressively people will have different attitudes about whatever I may be writing. On the opposite scale of what I’m use to writing is the lyrical essay. I mentioned earlier that I have trouble doing describing events that may happen when no one else is around and trying to explain to them what took place. With this said, I didn’t really enjoy writing the lyrical essay. I think for that feeling to exist, I had to write an essay that contains poetic devices. I barely like reading poems myself, but to write an essay and include such elements puts me at somewhat of a challenge.
Self discovery is something I also have taken out from this class. Sometimes through writing is when you actually can focus on a segment of your life or personality and really begins to think about our habitual things we do or what different things can stand out in our life. In each of the essays that have been writing throughout the semester has made me think about myself and kind of doing some exploring on my life personal and how I can tell it in a unique way to those who may be absent when things happened. These things are called stories and experiences that will be not be forgotten because some are random incidents that can occur while others are things that mean the most to me at heart. In some our writing exercises we had to write in different points-of-views; especially in third person since I am writing as if I am someone else talking about myself and what I am like. And in the end I’m just talking about myself from a different advantage. I think it is quite impressive to read and write something that is written in third person point-of-view. I’m usually always writing in first or second person. There is nothing with getting out of the comfort zone and playing with something new. After all it is creative nonfiction writing.
Creative nonfiction writing is something I believe I am used to writing since I have not written anything fiction, but I just haven’t notice the formal way of calling it. I do not think this is the end of me writing and experimenting with creative nonfiction. It is truly something I enjoy writing while I am able to add my own writing style. It’s not just me telling the story it is how I tell the story that will engage the readers to want to continue on after reading the first page or two of whatever is written.

There is no wrong way to write, in my humble opinion. I've taken classes and was an english major and joined writing groups, and everyone has their own style, their own way. Just do it. And keep away from the cliches I guess is the only real rule. My personal rules are keep away from cliches and show don't tell. Found you on 20sb.
there are stories that are really hard to transcribe... you want everybody to know how you feel or just share the momentous events in your life and yet words from the dictionary seems to be so limited.
i should know.
it's been a struggle for me also.
and i think, it's the reason why photoblog, vlog and sound blog came to existence. words are just not enough, most of the time...
